This paper provides an overview of the addition circuits of the Z3 computing machine built by Konrad Zuse in 1941. The addition unit of the Z3 is interesting from a historical point of view because it had a binary architecture and used a carry-look-ahead technique similar to that used in modern processors. We built a portable replica of the addition circuits for display in museums. We show diagrams of the architecture and the layout of the reproduction.
