The increasing complexity of technical systems and the growing needs of data transmission capacity require an increased reliability in the processing, storing and transmission of data. Sometimes it is sufficient only to detect errors and not to correct them. Especially in the transmission of data with ARQ-procedures (automatic request), where the transmitter is able to repeat the information word after a successful error detection at the receiving end. One can obtain the error detecting capability by adding some check bits to the information bits.
