Bei minimal invasiven Operationen orientiert sich der Chirurg an einem Monitorbild. Ein Endoskop mit Kamera und die zur Operation benötigten Instrumente werden durch Röhren (Trokare) in den Körper des Patienten (z.B. Bauchraum) eingeführt. Zur Entlastung des Operationsteams soll das Nachführen (Tracking) des Endoskops, das durch ein Endoskopführungssystem getragen wird, zukünftig nicht manuell, sondern automatisch erfolgen. Das Endoskopführungssystem ist dabei ein spezielles kinematisches System, dessen Achsen durch Motoren bewegt werden.
