The construction sector is a major source of solid waste generation in the country. Studies indicate that the amount of waste generated by buildings has intensified due to the growth of the urban population. Untreated solid waste without proper disposal has negative consequences for the environment and population. The problem is due to the fact that much of the construction sector neglects the standards and laws that address the sustainability theme and because they are unaware of the deplorable costs of solid waste generation. This article aims to present, through exploratory research, how the construction sector can manage the reduction of solid waste generation in order to have a control and monitoring throughout the work life cycle. Finally, through this article it was possible to conclude that it is possible to reduce solid waste generation by developing a solid waste management plan structured in PBQP-H / Siac, Brazilian Habitat Quality and Productivity Program and Evaluation System. Compliance of Civil Service and Construction Companies, which establishes criteria for reduction of solid waste generated. Planning strategies for the reduction of this waste is an act that benefits nature in terms of sustainability and also has positive consequences for the construction industry by reducing costs with quality improvement.
