It is shown by feeding experiments with [3- 2 H]pyridine-2,6 -dicarboxylic acid that 6 -(hydroxythio)carbonylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid and pyridine-2 -carboxylic acid-6-m onothiocarboxylic acid are intermediates in the biosynthesis of pyridine-2,6 -di(monothiocarboxylic acid) from pyridine-2,6 -dicarboxylic acid produced by Pseudomonas putida. Thus the series of biosynthetic steps - COOH → - CO - SOH → COSH has been demonstrated for the first time.
