Treatment of (butadiene)zirconocene with two molar equivalents of benzylmercaptane results in the formation of Cp 2 Zr(SCH 2 Ph) 2  (11). Subsequent reaction of 11 with [Cp 2 ZrCH 3  + ][CH 3 B(C 6 F 5 ) 3  - ](12) leads to rapid elimination of methane to yield the dinuclear [μ-(η 2 -thiobenzaldehyde)(μ-SCH 2 Ph)(ZrCp 2 ) 2  + ] cation complex 14. A similar reaction is observed upon treatment of Cp 2 Zr(SC 2 H 5 ) 2  (15) with 12 to yield the thioacetaldehydebridged dinuclear metallocene cation complex Cp 2 Zr-μ-(η 2 -MeCHS)-μ-(SEt)ZrCp 2  (16).
