4-Benzyl-4-methyl-2-phenyl-5(4H)-oxazolone (1) forms with the chloro bridged compounds [R 3 PMCl 2 ] 2  (M = Pt, Pd) the complexes Cl 2 Pt(PR 3 )(l) (R = Et,  n Bu) and Cl 2 Pd(PEt 3 )(l). The enantiomeric pure C 2 -symmetric CMe 2  bridged bis(oxazolones) 5 and 6 have also been employed which give with PdCl 2  the chelate complexes 13 and 14. The X-ray structural determination of Cl 2 P d[O-C (O)-CMe 2 -N=C-CMe 2 -C=N-CMe 2 -C (O)-O ] (10) shows that one of the methyl group of the CMe 2  bridge is located near the palladium atom. This can also be detected in the  1 H NMR spectrum.
