The redetermination of the crystal structure of α-iodine monochlorideα-ICl, is described. It crystallises monoclinically in the space group P2 1 /c with a = 1216.2(1), b = 428.6(1), c = 1188.9(1) pm, ß = 117.50(1)° and eight formula units per unit cell.
