25 Mg NMR spectroscopy has been used to study the solution behaviour of Mg(BH 4 ) 2  · 3 THF, RMg(BH 4 ) · nL (L = various ethers) and ROMg(BH 4 ) · nL. While the solution state of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 ·3 THF remains unchanged in THF or benzene, Schlenk type equilibria are observed for RMg(BH 4 ) compounds. At low temperatures Mg(BH 4 ) 2  · nL and MgR 2  · nL are the preferred constituents in solution. In contrast, the dimeric ROMg(BH 4 ) compounds do not disproportionate into Mg(OR) 2  · nL and Mg(BH 4 ) 2  · nL.
