β-Tetraphosphorus-trichalcogenide hydrides have been detected in the reaction mixtures of β-P 4 S 3 X 2  (X = Cl, Br, I) with (CH 3 ) 3 SnH in CS 2  solutions. In the first step of the reaction the configuration of the hydrogen accepting phosphorus atom is inverted and the compound β-P 4 S 3 X exo H endo  is formed, as the main product. Two further isomers β-P 4 S 3 Cl exo H exo  and β- P 4 S 3 H exo H endo  w ere found in low concentrations.
