A simple route to 1,3-diphosphetanes [RPCF 2 ] 2  [R = Ph, Me, Bu t ] is described. The phosphaalkene intermediates RP=CF 2 , as well as the corresponding disulfides [R(S)PCF 2 ] 2  have been characterized. The crystal structures of [PhPCF 2 ] 2 , and of the sulfides [Ph(S)PCF 2 ] 2  and [Bu t (S)PCF 2 ] 2  are reported.
