The phosphoryl(III)(λ 4 P) and thiophosphoryl(III)(λ 4 P) derivatives, 1,3,5-trimethyl-2-hydro-1,3,5-triaza-2-oxo-2λ 4 -phosphinane-4,6-dione 2 and 1,3,5-trimethyl-2-hydro-1,3,5-triaza-2-thio-2λ 4 -phosphinane-4,6-dione 3 were obtained from 2-chloro-1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3,5-triaza-2λ 3 -phosphinane-4,6-dione 1, by reaction either with water or with hydrogen sulphide. The reactions of 2 and 3 with the fluorine-containing ketones, hexafluoroacetone and trifluoroacetophenone, led to the compounds 4-7 with the P(:O)–O or P(:S)–O structural element. The compounds 2-6 were characterized via their  1 H,  13 C and  31 P NMR spectra, mass spectra and through the X-ray structure determination of 4. Compound 7 was characterized from its  1 H and  31 P NMR spectrum and mass spectrum, only.
