The  119 Sn-CPMAS-NMR spectra of the complex [(i-PrSn) 12 O 14 (OH 6 )] 2+  ion were recorded for two different salts having twelve and four different tin atoms in the asymmetric unit, respectively. Both spectra agree very well with X-ray crystallographic predictions, and thus demonstrate the great sensitivity of heavy nuclei NMR spectroscopy to subtle structural changes. Infrared spectroscopy is shown to be a suitable routine detection method for the identification of this ion in the solid state.
