The platinum(O) compound (Ph 3 P) 2 Pt(η 2 H 4 ) (1) reacts with N-(alkyl- and arylsulfinyl) phthalimides R—S(O)-Nphth [R = C 3 H 7  (2a), C 4 H 9  (2b), C 12 H 25  (2c), CH 2 Ph (2d), Ph (2e) p-CH 3 C 6 H 4  (2f)] to give the trans-configurated sulfenato complexes (Ph 3 P) 2 Pt[S(O)—R](Nphth) (3a—f). The compounds 3a—f have been characterized by IR, 1H,  13 C and  31 P NMR spectroscopy, 3d—f additionally by their FAB mass spectra. The oxidation of cis-(Ph 3 P) 2 Pt(SC 4 H 9 )(Nphth) (5) with m-chloroperbenzoic acid leads to a mixture of compounds containing cis-(Ph 3 P) 2 Pt[S(O)C 4 H 9 ](Nphth) (6) as a main product.
