Bis(tetrabutylammonium)bis( 1,1 -dicyanoethene-2,2-diselenolato)nitridotechnetate( V), (Bu 4 N) 2 [TcN(i-mns)2] has been prepared by the reaction of (Bu 4 N)TcNCl 4  with the potassium salt of the ligand and Bu 4 NBr. The compound forms yellow crystals which were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV/VIS spectrometry, mass spectroscopy as well as X-ray structure determination. The compound crystallizes triclinic in the space group P 1̄ with Z = 2. The final R value is 0.045. In the complex anion the five-coordinate technetium atom exhibits a square pyramidal environment with the selenium donors in the basal plane and the nitrido ligand in the apical position. The bond length Tc≡=N = 161(1) pm is within the normal range of TcN triple bonds.
