The reaction of Fe(CO) 4 I 2  with Ag(tolN 5 tol) in THF yields dark violet, oxygen sensitive [Fe(tolN 5 tol) 2 ] 2  (1), whereas in the case of Ru(CO) 4 I 2  the reaction with Ag(tolN 5 tol) occurs under reduction to Ru(I), and brownish, air stable [Ru(CO) 3 (tolN 5 tol)] 2  (2) is obtained.
