Experiments to synthesize tetra-ortho-substituted cis-bis(phenyl)platinum (II) compounds yielded exclusively the trans-isomers trans -bis(2 ,6 -bis methoxyphenyl)bis(triphenylphosphane)- platinum(II) (trans-1a) and trans -bis(2 ,4 ,6 -trismethoxyphenyl)bis(triphenylphosphane)- platinum(II) (trans-1b), instead of the cis-compounds. The structure of trans-1b has been determined by X-ray analysis.
