Me 3 SnO 2 PCl 2  and (Me 2 PS) 2 O are prepared from the reactions of (Me 3 Sn) 2 O with POCl 3  (1:1) and with Me 2 PSCl (1:2), respectively. The reactions of (Me 3 Sn) 2 S with Me 2 PSCl and with PSBr 3  lead to the formation of (Me 2 PS) 2 S and P 4 S 9 , respectively. POCl 3  reacts with (Me 3 Sn) 2 S to give unidentified products as a result of O/S exchange. The i.r. and Raman spectra of the solids (Me 2 PS) 2 O and (Me 2 PS) 2 S and the Raman spectra of the molten compounds are reported and the frequencies assigned.
