A crystal structure determination proves that the reaction of 2-methyl-1,3-benzoxaphosphole with tetrachlor-o-benzoquinone leads to 6-methyl-benzo[h]-tetrachlorobenzo[c]-2,5,7-trioxa-1- phosphabicyclo[4.3.0]nonane via a [4+2]-cycloaddition. The possibility of an oxidative [4+1]- cycloaddition of the quinone can therefore be excluded. The compound crystallizes monoclinicly (P2 1 /c, a = 849.9(1), b = 1009.5(2), c = 1859.4(2) pm, β = 94.03(1)°, Z = 4). The bicyclic system shows cis-configuration. In the crystalline state the endo-conformation is present
