2-Hydroperoxides of cyclic esters react with pyridine-2,6-di(monothiocarboxylic acid) in form of its iron complex by attack of the thiocarboxylate anion at C-3, opening of the ether ring and formation of a thioester carrying a acyloxy group in the alcohol portion. A typical example is the formation of pyridine-2,6-di(monothiocarboxylic acid)-di-S-(3-formoxypropyl)ester from tetra- hydrofuran-2-hydroperoxide.
