The reaction of substituted cinnamonitrile derivatives with cyanoacetanilide and ethyl acetoacetate is reported. Several new polyfunctional pyridine and pyran derivatives could be synthesised. The structures of the prepared compounds and the mechanisms of their formation is reported.
