The dimanganadiphosphadithiacyclohexadiene [(OC) 4 MnSP(CH 3 ) 2 ] 2  (1) crystallizes in theorthorhombic space group Pbca with Z = 4. Attempts to cyclotrimerize the intermediate(2) which is obtained from 1 and the alkyne R-C≡C-R (R = CO 2 CH 3 ), with the isocyanides L = R'NC (R' = t-Bu, C 6 Hn 11 , C 6 H 5 ) yield to the formation of substitution products(3a-c). An insertion of the isocyanide into the Mn-C-σ-bond of 3a-c could not be observed, even under drastic conditions. In a similar way(3d) is isolated from 2 and P(C 6 H 5 ) 3 . The structures of the compounds 3 a-d are discussed on the basis of their IR, NMR and mass spectra.
