The photodegradation to CO 2  (photomineralization) of chlorinated alkanes, alkenes and aromatics adsorbed on silica gel was examined. In addition to CO2, Cl -  and Cl 2  were determined. The degradation depends considerably on the activity of the surface and decreases in the order alkenes &gt; alkanes &gt; aromatics.
