The catalytical system, prepared from H 2 PtCl 6  + SnCl 2  · 2 H 2 O and the additives HBr and H 2 O in iso-butanol is very efficient for homogeneous hydrogenation of unsaturated esters under mild conditions. Reaction rates r up to 40 mMol · 1 -1  · min -1  and turnover numbers UZ higher than 1.600 are observed.
