Zirkonphosphat setzt sich in saurer Lösung mit Fluorionen zu Zirkonfluorid und einer äquivalenten Menge freier Phosphorsäure um. Mit Hilfe von  32 P-Zirkonphosphat läßt sich auf dieser Grundlage eine quantitative Fluorbestimmung wäßriger Lösungen ausführen, indem man die freiwerdende  32 P-Phosphorsäure papierchromatographisch von überschüssigem  32 P-Zirkonphosphat trennt.
