The high resolution of microwave Fourier transform spectroscopy was used to investigate the  35 chlorine hyperfine structure of 1,2- and 1,3-dichlorobenzene, C 6 H 4  35 Cl 2  , very accurately in the rotational spectrum of their ground vibrational state. The careful analysis with a new evaluation program also yielded the off-diagonal element of the coupling tensor. The tensor elements are χ aa = -41.1153(35) MHz,χ bb  = 8.3415(96) MHz, χ cc  = 32.7738(61) MHz, and χ ab  = ±52.41 (58) MHz for 1,2-dichlorobenzene and χ aa = -44.174(12) MHz, χ bb = 10.876(12) MHz, χ cc  = 33.298(12) MHz, and χ ab = ±48.181(39) MHz for 1,3-dichlorobenzene.
