In the last few years the assignment of the optical phonons of LiNbO 3  to the different symmetry species was often changed. We therefore concluded that the relative intensities of the Raman lines must be re-examined. According to all elements of the Raman tensor, the fundamental spectra were recorded separately as far as possible. The relative intensities are listed within an error of 7 or 40 percent, each according to signal-to-noise-ratio and/or overlapping of nearby lines.
