The emission spectrum of an AlCl 3  arc plasma with core temperatures from 5600 to 6150 K is quantitatively measured in the wavelength region between 1800 and 8200 Å. In addition to the Al lines has been observed: The Cl affinity continuum, produced by the attachment of electrons to Cl atoms, the recombination continuum of the Al +  ions, the continuous bremsstrahlung of the electrons in the field of the Al +  ions, the continuous bremsstrahlung of the electrons in the field of the neutral Cl and Al atoms, and finally the association continuum of the AlCl +  molecular ions, produced by the attachment of Al +  ions to Cl atoms.
