Measurements of the magnetomechanical effects of high permeability materials have not yet been performed because of their smallness. Using a new technique, the Joule magnetostriction of Mumetal is obtained by shear strain measurement. The change of shear modulus and the magnetomechanical damping in dc and ac magnetic fields are investigated and discussed.
