The excitation function of the reaction  11 B(n,α) 8 Li(β) 8 Be*(2α) has been measured for neutrons with energies between 15.5 and 19 MeV. The reaction was identified by the α-decay of the  8 Be* occurring with the lifetime of the residual nucleus  8 Li. The detector for the α-particles was a gridded ionization chamber.
