The radial distribution functions of simple liquids are often derived from a lattice by smearing out the lattice distances. The widening of the distance distribution is related to special disturbances which are assumed to be typical for the liquid state. It is shown that already the thermal vibrations lead to similar widenings, irrespective of two extreme possibilities for the kinetic behaviour of the atoms, namely lattice-like or corresponding to a linear chain with interactions between nearest neighbors.
