A nuclear model where the single-particle states of the valence neutron are vector coupled to the ground (0 + ) and first excited (2 + )  12 C-core states, is considered. The model is applied to calculate total photodisintegration cross sections of the reaction  13 C(γ, n) 12 C for energies below the Giant dipole resonance. The radial wavefunctions in initial- as well as final states are of the Saxon-Woods type.
