Die Aluminium-Bor-Phase, die kürzlich als β-AlB 12  beschrieben wurde, besteht aus zwei kristallographisch verwandten, miteinander verwachsenen Phasen der Zusammensetzung C 2 Al 3 B 48 . Beide Phasen sind rhombisch. Die eine hat die Gitterkonstanten a = 12,34 Å, 6 = 12,63 Å, c = 5,08 Å und die Raumgruppe Cmma oder C2ma; bei der anderen ist a = 6,17 Å, 6 = 12,63 Å, c = 10,16 Å, mögliche Raumgruppen sind Ammm, A222 und A2mm.
