To study the pyrolysis kinetics of exfoliated nanocomposites, polyvinyl acetate (PVAc)-montmorillonite (MMT)-dioctadecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (DOAB) was prepared through five different synthesis processes. The synthesis processes and MMT-DOAB had some effect on the thermal degradation, which was found to consist of eight phases. MMT-DOAB had no significant effect on the pyrolysis temperature, but delayed the thermal degradation process. The pyrolysis kinetics in thermal degradation were analyzed using the Agrawal integral equation.
