We report on the synthesis of a new bismuth aryloxide molecule Bi[OC 6 H 4 (CH 2 C 6 H 5 )-2] 3  ( 1 ), which was characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. A characteristic structural feature is the dimeric unit with a central Bi 2 O 2  core resulting from  μ -binding phenolates. In addition, both bismuth atoms show a Bi⋅⋅⋅π arene interaction with a quite short Bi⋅⋅⋅π centroid  distance of 3.11 Å in the solid state.
