In this paper we consider the maintenance of an unreliable M/G/l queue-like production system. In this production system, components are arriving in batches of variable size, according to a Poisson process and the amount of processing time is stochastic with known probability distribution function. The preventive maintenance operations are most important for production system in order to reduce the processing time and the number of defective components produced. For optimal preventive maintenance policy, the expression for the long-run average profit is derived. Using the renewal theory, other basic results for the maintenance policy are obtained.
