To determine whether prolonged dexamethasone therapy, used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), affects the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), premature born infants (Gestational age &lt; 33 weeks) treated or not with dexamethasone for BPD were retrospectively studied over a 5 year period. Although the dexamethasone treated group had a significant lower gestational age and a longer period of total ventilatory support there was no significant difference in incidence of ROP between the groups.
