Photoactive hybrid 1-D TiO 2  nanostructured films with large size were directly synthesized on Ti sheet via an alkali-hydrothermal route. The in-situ formed 1-D TiO 2  films and Ti substrate had an all-in-one structure. The samples were characterized by ultra-high resolution FESEM, XRD, AES, XPS and N 2 -sorption. The morphology of 1-D TiO 2  nanostructured films could be tuned by adjusting hydrothermal time and NaOH concentration. At the lower NaOH concentration, hybrid nanostructured 1-D TiO 2  films were composed with nanoflowers and nanowires with the nanoflowers as the framework, whereas TiO 2  nanowire network films appeared at higher NaOH concentration. The attachment strength of 1-D TiO 2  films to Ti substrate is determined by the type of formed nanostructures. Hybrid 1-D TiO 2  films composed with nanoflowers and nanowires were tightly attached to Ti substrate, however nanowire network films could be easily exfoliated off. The photocatalytic activity of hybrid 1-D TiO 2  films was stable in cyclic degradation of methyl orange, and significantly higher than that of solgel derived TiO 2  films.
