This study described methylene blue (MB) decolorization in continuous and circulating electrical plasma system constituted by an airtight plasma reactor and subsequent reaction column. The preferable parameters in continuous mode were input voltage of 45 kV, gas flow rate of 40 L h -1 , the initial pH of 7.62 and low solution conductivity. More preferable treatment efficiencies were observed at lower liquid flow rate, e.g., approximately 98% for 10 mg L -1 , 96% for 20 mg L -1 , 93% for 30 mg L -1  and 90% for 40 mg L -1 , respectively at liquid flow rate of 1.5 L h -1 . In this mode, the rate constants can be calculated based on first-order-kinetics. After plasma treatment, the biodegradability was significantly improved and in this case, a post-biological treatment can be suggested. In addition, initial dye concentration and liquid flow rate posed effects on dye removal in circulating experiments, which can also be well predicted by first-order-kinetic model. Finally, primary plasma oxidation intermediates were detected by using HPLC/MS.
