The results of the investigations on the photodegradation of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen sodium salt (IBU) in a photocatalytic membrane reactor (PMR) coupling photocatalysis using suspended TiO 2  and direct contact membrane distillation are described. The influence of solution composition in terms of (i) pH (pH 3, pH 6.5 and pH 10), (ii) presence of inorganic salts (NaCl, Na 2 SO 4 , NaHCO 3 , NaNO 3  and Na 3 PO 4 ) and (iii) turbidity (bentonite, 13.5 - 103 NTU) on the effectiveness of IBU removal was especially investigated. The highest effectiveness of IBU photodegradation was obtained at pH 6.5. No influence of the presence of NaCl, NaNO 3  and Na 2 SO 4  on the effectiveness of degradation and mineralization of IBU was found. NaHCO 3  and Na3PO4 did not affect the effectiveness of degradation of IBU; however, the efficiency of mineralization decreased significantly. The increased turbidity of feed solution did not affect IBU removal in the PMR.
