Light and dark oxidation processes of organic compounds involving H 2 O 2  are shown to be efficient during this study in decolorizing azo-dyes. Light-activated rates are higher than those obtained in dark processes. The UV component of natural sunlight is sufficient to promote the H 2 O 2  /·OH reaction leading to Orange II abatement. Initial dye and H 2 O 2 Concentration, pH, intensity and wavelength of the light were shown to influence significantly the reduction of the total organic carbon (TOC) and decoloration rates. Laser photolysis allowed to assess the initial fast reaction kinetics and to suggest a reaction scheme that also takes into account the products of the degradation observed at longer reaction times. Bleaching of Orange II (2.9 mM) with H 2 O 2  (75 mM) was observed in a solar simulator within 2 h. The turnover number for this process is estimated at ≈1O -2 . Degradation of Orange II adding H 2 O 2  under solar irradiation (90 mW/cm 2 ) proceeded with a quantum efficiency of 0.07. In separate experiments, metal-ions like Fe 3+ , Cu 2+ or their combination were added homogeneously in the presence of H 2 O 2  to affect Orange II decoloration/degradation. Copper 2+ -Ion as co-catalyst was seen to improve the dark oxidation efficiency of Fe 3 Mon in the Fenton-like system. When using Cu 2+ -ion alone total oxidation was observed but only for small concentrations of the azo-dye within a reasonable time period. Mechanisms of reaction are suggested for Orange II degradation when i) H 2 O 2  is used ii) when Fe 3 /Cu 2+  is used in conjunction with the oxidant and iii) when titania slurries are used. The latter suspensions were investigated and the efficiency of heterogeneous systems and homogeneous photocatalysis is estimated in azo-dye degradation.
