Degradation of organic compounds in aqueous medium by use of ozone can be improved with ultrasound. Using 4-nitrophenol as an example, it was evidenced that the ultrasonic frequency modifies the efficiency of the treatment. Determination of the total organic carbon during the course of the reaction indicates that yield are better when the medium is submitted to a 500 kHz irradiation than a 20 kHz one. This result is correlated to the better yields of H 2 O 2  formed under irradiation at the higher frequency, and hence to the higher rate of OH escaping from the bubble of cavitation.
