Humor is a crucial component in many different contexts of everyday life. Humor can be seen as social “glue” that helps to foster relationships, it relates to positive functioning, enhances quality of life, and is important for life satisfaction (see Martin 2007; Ruch 2008). Humor has adaptive functions, as have been shown in numerous studies of humor’s impact on inter-personal relationships and intrapersonal emotional functioning. However, there seems to be a population that encounters difficulties with humor. In 1944, Hans Asperger described humorlessness to be one of the characteristics of individuals with Asperger’s syndrome (AS) or – in a broader sense – individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD):
