Nature-inspired folktales or folk geotales abound in the world’s folklore and in Persian folklore in particular, due to thought-provoking natural settings and man’s age-old affinity with nature. A folk geotale as a living element of folklore exceeds its role as a mere product of the interplay between nature and culture, reinvigorating the naturality of culture and the culturality of nature. This article provides a case study of an oral geotale,  Khal Pirzene , while unfolding the thematic and archetypal layers inherent in the tale and looking at it from the points of view of folklore and geomyth.
