European Private Law – the rules and principles of  private law contained in the EC Treaty and the secondary legislation based upon  the Treaty – has often been criticised for its lack of coherence. Some argue  that it consists of a number of dots only which do not fit together. European  Private Law is, in other words, the very contrary of a coherent whole (system).  A proper judgement of this proposition must be based on a detailed analysis of  the acquis communautaire. The present article undertakes such analysis for the  realm of European Contract Law, more specifically for the law on rights of  revocation. The analysis illustrates that the large number of individual  “points” of regulation can well be understood as parts of a coherent picture.  While it cannot be denied that there are disparities in many respects, the rules  do harmoniously fit together in many respects.
