In A TV Dante - Cantos I-VIII (1988) il regista Peter Greenaway e il pittore Tom Phillips adattavano i primi otto canti dell’Inferno di Dante per la televisione. Il film è basato su un livre d’artiste con illustrazioni e una nuova traduzione dell’Inferno di Tom Phillips (Dante’s Inferno, London 1985), del quale gli artisti volevano realizzare una ›nuova edizione televisiva‹. Allo stesso tempo Phillips e Greenaway cercavano modi per rinnovare la ›lingua televisiva‹ esistente. Questo articolo analizza la strategia dell’adattamento dell’Inferno nel film - strategia caratterizzata da un approccio ›strutturalistico‹.
