The reaction of anhydrous zinc chloride with 2,3-thiophenedicarbaldehyde bis(semicarbazone) or 2,3-bis(thiosemicarbazone) leads to the formation of compound {[C 6 H 5 N 2 S] + [ZnCl 3 (C 6 H 4 N 2 S)] − }, where C6H4N2S is thieno[2,3-d]pyridazine, via an elimination-cyclisation reaction of the semicarbazone or the thiosemicarbazone moiety.
