In 1987 through 2013, the surveys and researches on the water control engineering on the periphery of the Liangzhu Ancient City Site generally revealed the entire water system. The entire dam system was formed by many sections of artificial dams and natural hill bodies and consisted of the high and low dam systems; the  14 C dating results showed that the date of the dam system was the early and mid Liangzhu Culture. The consistency of the structure and building techniques of the dams with the typical remains of Liangzhu Culture is another evidence to prove that the dam system belonged to Liangzhu Culture. The water control engineering might have multiple functions including the flood control, transportation, domestic water supply, irrigation, etc.; it has direct relationship with the economic and social developments of the sites of Liangzhu Culture and the emergence of the Liangzhu Ancient City.
