Investigating lung tissue with high-resolution and non-invasive 3D optical coherence tomography (OCT) can increase the understanding of lung function on an alveolar level during mechanical ventilation. Using the concept of total liquid ventilation in animal experiments, the imaging of alveoli with OCT can be improved to get new and more detailed insights into lung tissue mechanics and dynamics.
