P.Berol. 9960 contains the verse Iliad 3.59 = 6.333 and its paraphrase preceded by a kind of introductory formula. The first editors dated the fragment to the second century AD and assigned it to a commentary on the third or sixth book of the Iliad. It is the purpose of this note to dispute that date, re-examine the question of genre, inadequately dealt with in the editio princeps, and to consider the paraphrase against the background of the lexicographical tradition.
